Transforming a Commercial Garage with Metallic Epoxy Flooring
When it comes to garages, functionality often takes priority over aesthetics. But why settle for just the basics when you can have both? In our recent project in Philadelphia, the Swayd Epoxy team had the opportunity to enhance a commercial garage with metallic epoxy flooring, which not only improved its durability but also, its overall appearance.
From Plain to Spectacular
Our process begins with a thorough consultation with the client. At this stage, understanding their vision and requirements for the flooring is vital. This particular customer wanted a garage that was not only durable but also visually appealing. They aimed to elevate the ambiance of the basic garage.
Day 1: Laying the Groundwork
The project kicked off by carefully preparing the surface of the garage. Our team conducted an in-depth assessment, measuring moisture levels with a Mohs measuring device, and ensuring the surface was free of imperfections such as cracks and divots. At Swayd Epoxy Floors, we believe that a great finish starts with thorough prep work. We cleaned the concrete surface of contaminants like dirt, dust, and grease. Then, to create a mechanical profile on the surface, we used a diamond grinder. This step sets the stage for a seamless application and ensures proper adhesion of the epoxy.
Day 2: Epoxy Application
Picking the right shade of color and pattern was crucial to achieving the desired end result. The client envisioned a dynamic blend of dark-green metallic hues that would reflect light beautifully and add depth to the garage. The chosen color was a combination of oslo gray and midnight green with a hint of silver, creating a modern, abstract look.
Applying the epoxy was like painting a blank concrete canvas. We carefully mixed the metallic pigments with epoxy resin and hardener, ensuring a perfect balance to obtain a durable and beautiful finish. The application process was an art in itself, using various specialized tools to create a seamless, glossy surface.
Day 3: Finishing Touches
After allowing the epoxy to cure, we returned to refine the finish. Ensuring the surface was perfectly level and smooth was important, so we thoroughly repaired bubbles and other imperfections. Then, we sealed the surface with a top-grade clear (either polyurethane or polyaspartic) sealer, enhancing both the sheen and durability of the flooring. As a final step, we conducted a stress test to ensure that the flooring could withstand the rigors of garage use.
The transformation was nothing short of remarkable. The once dull and basic garage floor now shines with a metallic glow, a fusion of durability and design.
