Transforming Spaces with Polished Concrete
For any hair salon and spa, maintaining a modern and inviting atmosphere is important. In Philadelphia, a customer wanted to turn an older space into a hair-cutting room. The existing concrete floor was solid but lacked the appeal the owners wanted.
That’s when our team at Swayd Epoxy Floors stepped in to work our magic!
Day 1: Preparation and Initial Grinding
We started by thoroughly cleaning the concrete to remove dirt, dust, grease, and contaminants. All exposed cracks and blemishes were repaired. We then ground the concrete using 20, 40, and 80-grit diamond grinders. Next, we applied a densifier solution that fused inert compounds and sand particles, significantly increasing surface resistance to staining and wear.
Day 2: Fine Grinding and Polishing
On the second day, we continued polishing the concrete with the highest grit polishing pads to achieve the desired level of shine. This step involves multiple passes to refine the finish. We used transitional resin bonds with 100, 200, and 400 grit to further smooth the surface. We polished the floor with 800 grit diamond pads, then applied a concrete sealer to protect the polished surface from stains and enhance its appearance. Then, we burnished the surface with a 1,600-grit pad. This left the floor smooth, shiny, and ready for immediate use!
