Custom Art Studio Epoxy Transformation in Cochranville, PA

From Concrete to Creative Sanctuary

What do you do when you have a standard garage but the soul of an artist? You transform it, of course.

We recently had the pleasure of working on a unique commercial-grade project in Cochranville, Pennsylvania. Our client was converting a garage into a fully functional sculpture and art studio. Because sculpture work involves heavy materials, sharp tools, and plenty of potential spills, they needed a floor that could take a beating while still looking beautiful and inspiring.

They turned to Swayd Epoxy for a solution that was as durable as it was aesthetic.

The Design Choice: Earthy & Resilient

For an art studio, the floor needs to be more than just tough—it has to complement the creative energy of the space. The client opted for a flake finish for its incredible impact resistance, slip resistance, and ease of cleaning.

To match the natural, artistic vibe of their upcoming sculptures, they chose Creekbed—an earthy blend of warm browns, soft beiges, and muted grays that perfectly grounds the room and hides dust and debris beautifully.

The Swayd System: Step-by-Step Installation

A great epoxy floor is only as good as its prep work. At Swayd, we don’t cut corners. Here is how we took this Cochranville garage from a dusty concrete slab to a high-performance creative sanctuary:

1. Profiling the Substrate

Before we even think about mixing epoxy, we have to ensure the concrete is ready to bond. We mechanically profiled (ground) the concrete floor. This opens up the pores of the concrete, creating a rough texture that allows our base coat to fuse deeply with the slab.

2. Repairing & Filling

Art studios require a seamless, trip-free surface. We meticulously repaired all existing cracks and filled the control joints. This ensures a smooth, continuous surface where dust, clay, and debris have nowhere to hide.

3. The Base Coat: 100% Solids Epoxy

With the prep complete, we applied our commercial-grade, 100% solids epoxy base coat. This serves as the incredibly strong, thick foundation of the entire system.

4. Broadcasting to Rejection

While the epoxy was still wet, we broadcast the Creekbed flake blend across the entire floor until “rejection”. This means we threw down enough flake to completely saturate the wet epoxy, ensuring 100% coverage, maximum thickness, and an even texture.

5. The Final Step: High-Performance Top Coat

The following day, we returned to reclaim the excess flake, scrape the floor to a perfectly uniform texture, and apply our high-performance top coat. This final layer locks in the flakes, provides UV stability, and delivers chemical and scratch resistance that can easily withstand heavy sculpting equipment.

The Finished Masterpiece

The result is a stunning, industrial-strength floor that is ready for decades of creativity. The warm, grounding tones of the Creekbed finish instantly elevated the space from a cold garage into an inviting, professional art studio.

No matter how messy the sculpting process gets, this floor is ready to be hosed down, swept, and put to work day after day.
